International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

Caracas, 9th August 2015 – In the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from 1999, in its VIII Chapter 'Rights of Indigenous Peoples’, we can read: 'State will recognize the indigenous peoples and societies, their social structure, politics and economy, culture, traditions, languages and religions, natural environment, as well as original, inherited rights to lands they have been living in and which are vital for further development and in order to guarantee their lifestyle’.

Going beyond the parades celebrating indigenous peoples on their day, Carta Magna from 1999 is a perfect way to honor all the peoples that live in the Venezuelan territory, after over 500 years old resistance movement.
